Seeing Stars....Blue Fern Studios July Sketch Challenge

This July Sketch  is so sweet and wonderfully works with the Ombre Dreams “Susan’s Dream” paper by Blue Fern Studios (“BFS”).  I worked with the beautiful pattern/design on the paper to help me build and enhance my layout .  I hadn’t realized that one particular bunch of the BFS stars were a compositional piece until my chipboard arrived in the mail. I was so delighted that it was one piece because it was so easy to work with on the sketch and just as easy to dress up too. Coat the star piece with white gesso, then coat with clear gesso (when working with light colors of paints and mists, the white gesso resists these types of colors and the clear gesso will hold on to them).  A few of the stars were treated with glue and fiber paper to build up the stars and add some dimension.

Card designed with the Ombre Dreams Paper Collection and Blue Fern Studios Chipboard too.

Here's that sweet little card I promised you.  I adored the colors of orchid, lilac and yellow in the Juliana's Dream paper from Blue Fern Studios new paper collection, "Ombre Dreams."  Some light stamping so as not to over power the delicate design of the paper was applied on top of the card; and I  added some lacey bits and sewing too to add some texture.

These daisies are elements from the Jeweled Page Dangle chipboard (the dangle portion is in the picture below).  Aren't they sweet?  White paint was applied on top of the chipboard, followed by a charcoal gray water color pencil to add an inner petal, then fill in the center of the inner petal with a little dab of colored mist using a very small brush.  Don't worry if you over do it or make a mistake, simply start over with white paint and start again. (I speak from experience...LOL.)

Here's the exquisite part of the whole dangle piece.  The piece itself is very small and at first I was tempted to just paint it white and leave it that way because it looked just fine that way too.  But, no, my inner voice whispered, "embellish, embellish, embellish," and so I did.  Again, lightly trace the pattern of the chipboard design with a watercolor pencil, highlight some of the sides with some yummy Glimmer Glam paint.  Add some molding paste on top of the bauble portion to add some dimension, and apply three values of the same color mist for shading and interest.  Give it a try, I think you will be happy with the results.

Thanks so much for taking a peek. Until the next time.....happy creating to you.

Juliana's Dream Paper Collection by Blue Fern Studios

Sharing with you today one of my June Blue Fern Studios design team projects featuring Juliana's Dream paper from the Ombre Dreams paper collection, and some chipboard too.  This paper collection has a color for everyone, and for me it’s the orchid, lilac, and yellow colors.
The Quatrefoil Panel chipboard was used as a stencil in the background  to add some texture, layering, to further blend the colors together, and grounding the softness of the colors with a hint of charcoal mist.

I'll be sharing a sweet little card from the same paper collection in a few days, hope to see you soon.

Thank you for stopping by and taking a peek.

Spring Tag

Hi everyone,

Seems I'm always late these days. Summer has just begun, and I'm still thinking about spring.  Today, I'm sharing a purple and green colored tag with you featuring some Blue Fern Studios ("BFS")chipboard as my architectural element. Here you'll find the BFS Turkish Bits, and  Spring Trinket chipboard. Some of the old Creative Imagination papers sneaked in here too.

The purple colored strip of paper in the middle was applied using the image transfer technique where you apply, in this case, some heavy gel medium on the underside of some printed paper, and rub the paper very firmly on top of some card stock and set aside to dry. After the papers have dried, spritz with some water and slowly rub the top side of the paper off until the underside of the printed paper is revealed. It's a nice way to lighten up a very dark and heavy colored pattern paper, or just to make the paper look seamless.  In the Labels category below you can find other projects where I've use the image transfer technique too.

Happy creating to you...

buttery yellow, white, charcoal and black....Tag

I've always loved this color combination, and last night I was inspired to create on a whim by a fellow scrapping friend. She was so full of inspiration and joy as she worked her project.  You know the place you go in your head and you're enjoying the creative process and don't want to stop?  I so wanted to visit that place again.  I adore ribbons and beads and loved to incorporate them when I can, and what an easy way to do so on something small.  It's so very relaxing to sew in those little beads, and they add so much elegance.  I have to admit, my hand got a little shaky as I applied that Prima Corrine flower.  Sadly, they don't manufacture these any more and I'm coveting the few I have left.

Here's some close up of the Blue Fern Studios Layering Stem.  You get several in a package and they're a must have for tucking in clusters.  The stem was first covered with black ink, and then some glass bead gel and micro beads were applied on top. The sprig just glistens.

The background on the tag was created using some molding paste, mist, and the Blue Fern Studios Quatrefoil Panel.

Thank you for visiting my blog, and I hope you find some inspiration to go to that place in your head too.

Artist Trading Cards

Welcome back!

Today, I'm sharing a collection of artist trading cards inspired by the colors of roses and greens found on the Signature page from the Blue Fern Garden paper collection.  The base of cards are parts of the Signature page, then applications of strips of layered papers from the same paper collection were glued down, and layers of gesso, stamping and mists were applied on top of that. The layering of strips of paper were applied so that they would not over up the pretty rose and leaf patterns on the paper.  There's some tattered lacy bits too. The little paper flowers were punched from the Signature page also.  The sweet petite window frames are from Blue Fern Studios.

Here are some close ups of the layering details on the paper and the mist application on the chipboard frames.

Treatment of the Petite Windows:  Each petite window was treated with a coat of white dauber, one light sporadic application of a light green colored chalk ink, one light sporadic application of a medium green colored chalk ink, and a light spray of a darker green glimmer mist in which I let the liquid of the mist run in various places making sure not to let it cover the entire frame. Applying the inks and mist sporadically over the frames creates interest and depth.     Some gold pen, black and white markers were used to highlight certain areas on the frame too.

Here's a picture of the Blue Fern Garden Signature page so that you can see the pretty paper I was working with.

Stop by Blue Fern Studios and checkout the paper collection, chipboard inventory, and some inspiration from the design team too.

Blue Fern Studios Design Team Work

I used the pretty rose pattern from the Blue Fern Garden "Signature" paper to create the basis of the composition of the layout.  No, your monitor is not blurry, that photo of the kids is blurry, a defect from the camera or the photographer in those days.  Sadly, the shoes are more in focus, and unfortunately, a lot of these old pics I inherited are blurry.   But on to the best part… those Blue Fern Studios chipboard dangles! This one is the Flutter Page Dangle.  I cut off the butterfly portion of the dangle and placed it on the other side of the layout on top of the rose pattern paper.  It looks more like a “flutter fly” than a “butterfly” because I applied mists of water to separate the cardboard to make the wings look like they are in motion. I love the dangle chipboard pieces because they are so versatile and you can cut them up too.

Treatment of the Dangle: The dangle was created by first applying white dauber, light green mist, and a darker mist.  To add depth, you sporadically cover the chipboard with the two mists (allow to dry between applications) and carefully allow some overlapping but not too much or you’ll only create one color. After the applications of mists dry, add some detail with a black marker, or water color pencil around various areas.  Try to create larger sweeps of the application of the marker, or watercolor pencil, in some areas and go over them with a white gel pen to add little dots to create further detail.  A simple treatment with lovely results.

Thank you for stopping by and allowing me to share my design team work with you.  Check in a few days from now, and I'll share my latest artist trading card collection.  You'll also want to stop by Blue Fern Studios to see all the new chipboard pieces too.

Keep creating...
