Light Seeker

I am a Light Seeker which is a student of Laly Mille’s Art. 

In a short time, I have learned many new techniques in her class

and about some amazing art products too.

My class mates are seasoned artist and so very inspiring,

I feel so humble being amongst them and learning from them too.

I am sharing my version of the Winter’s Tale canvas.

This exercise was all about light, contrasts and shadows

I used an old 1920 photo of my grandmother as a child. 

I didn’t expect the color in the black and white photo

to take on a green hue when I applied

the faux encaustic.

  Once the green hue revealed itself,

I then chose to add the color in my canvas.

Another Gown to Share with You.

I'm adding another gown to the series.

 Oh how I wish I was in my early 20's, I'd certainly want this hanging on my laundry line.

 Isn't her bodice a beauty? 

Some Blue Fern Studios Chipboard added some of the crocheted lacy look to the art piece. 

I used the Prima, Finnabair stamps to press on top of a light application 

of molding paste to capture some of the distressed wall behind the gown.

A Family Treasure

Every family has

a family treasure.

This little one is ours.

I wasn't really sure

where this idea of

using dusty pink and gray colors

was going to take me as

I lay down the

first foundation

of stencil and stamp work.

And, because of that uncertainty, 

it came to mind

that I was either going to 

love it or hate it, there 

was not going to be a middle ground for me.

Turns out fortunately for me,

that I love it. 

I have a hoard of old paper lines that I have not used and the Prima Rondell collection was one of them.  I was pleased that the papers and patterns were going to help me layer patterns and colors, and to tame down that garish pink stencil work that looked so striking alone next to the white paper.

then inspire me to create with them.

I'm becoming an alchemist by mixing micro beads, glass glitter, and fine glitters in various color combination with this series of cards where I use the same technique but using different colors and embellies.

 

 

Hmmm...which color should I create with next?

The accident was a watercolor mistake. However I liked the colors and salvaged the little creation with some stamping, tissue tape, and micro beads.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The little scroll work featuring the title, "Follow your Art" was wrapped onto a feminine little hanger charm I purchased from the Flying Unicorn Store.  Here's a picture of the hanger, some of the other charms that come in the set are featured on the first picture of this blog.  They're so adorable.

Tags featuring Blue Fern Studios Chipboard

Hello everyone, today I'm sharing my design team projects for July.  This lovely little shabby chic tag features the Blue Fern Studios Roman Clock.  You get three different sized clocks in one package.  Here is the smallest of the three clocks dressed up in molding paste to make it look a little withered and some mist applied too.  The background of the tag itself was created using white cardstock, printed book papers, gesso, textured paste and some mist made out of tea bags.  I have enough of the back ground paper to create another project, and I love the periwinkle color so much, that I want to use it again. The ribbons are made of tule, rayon seam ribbon, and fiber with some pearl beads woven in a few of the pieces.

Here is a close up of some of the ribbon work and my newly purchased Memory Box Stencil (quarterfoil panel) work on the very top of the tag.

The gears/widgets are metal charms treated with some shimmery metallic paste.  Some of the same paste was applied on top of the molding paste treatment on the Roman Clock. The hands on the Blue Fern Studios clock come in the chipboard package and are very ornately crafted.

Here's a tag made out of the Juliana Dream paper from the Blue Fern Studios Ombre Dream Collection.  Such lovely soft colors are in this paper.  Here the Blue Fern Studios Layering Stem was treated with a texture paste, misted and lightly washed with a watercolor pencil.  The rayon ribbon was laid down with beads woven into the ribbon to hold the ribbon down on the tag and add more texture and interest...such a delicate treatment for the ribbon. I've used it before and will use it every chance I get, because it adds so much elegance and just another wonderful detail that we so enjoy.

Juliana's Dream Paper Collection by Blue Fern Studios

Sharing with you today one of my June Blue Fern Studios design team projects featuring Juliana's Dream paper from the Ombre Dreams paper collection, and some chipboard too.  This paper collection has a color for everyone, and for me it’s the orchid, lilac, and yellow colors.

The Quatrefoil Panel chipboard was used as a stencil in the background  to add some texture, layering, to further blend the colors together, and grounding the softness of the colors with a hint of charcoal mist.

Cardabilities Sketch Challenge!

Hello everyone,

This sketch from Cardabilities inspired me to create this card for my Women of Substance series for the maternal line of my family.  Over the past months, I would share some history of the women in our family with my 20 year old niece, and we'd view old photographs too.  When I saw this sketch for the current sketch challenge at Cardabilities, the muse in me inspired me to create this series.  The cards as they are completed will be mailed to my niece and inside each card, I will provide a biography of each of the women.  I would love to be at her home when she receives and opens her first card.  In today's culture, we rarely post anything anymore, and I hope she finds these cards as gifts.

The background of the card was created with several different papers from the Blue Fern Garden paper collection from Blue Fern Studios.  Lots of strips of paper were torn, stamped, gesso'd, and stamped some more with various patterned stamps.  I weaved in a few pieces of lace as well.

This first card of the series represents my Grandmother Ruth taken around the age of 15.  I used the apothecary jar chipboard from Blue Fern Studios as the "sentiment" element on the sketch and used it as a name plate.

Canvas Art designed for Blue Fern Studios

Here's a 4 x 4 canvas featuring one of the leafy page accent chipboard pieces from Blue Fern Studios.  As was done on the sea shell frame I posted earlier, I used the art fiber tissue paper technique on the leafy page accent. You can find a short tutorial on the technique here at Blue Fern Studios.  During my Design Team term, I will be sharing a picture tutorial on how to create this effect. I normally post on the 17th of each month at Blue Fern Studios, so check out the posts for the future tutorial.

The canvas background was treated first with taupe colored acrylic paint, crackle, various colored mists, and some stamping.  It's an easy technique that brings life to the canvas and so much interest.  Quick and simple too!

Joy Canvas for the Berry71Bleu Joy December Challenge

While searching for some inspiration and a challenge to entice me to get back to creating, I found the "Joy" challenge hosted by Berry71Bleu.  The challenge is to write at least three sentences expressing what joyful thing you appreciate. Here's my take on the "Joy" challenge and it was such a delight to create with a 5 x 7 piece of canvas.

Here are the "Joy" Challenge Rules:

Joy. What brings you Joy? What always puts a smile on your face? Joy can be interpreted in many ways. Think about what person, place, activity, pet, hobby or simple pleasure gives you joy. This can be anything--that first warm cup of morning coffee, reading your favorite book, your family, your dog cuddling up next to you! Think outside of the box.

 

The second part of this challenge is that you must include journaling. Your journaling must be at least 3 sentences or more. Jotting down places and dates do not count. Document your thoughts and explain why the subject you chose to scrap brings you joy.

Wedding Card for Cardabilities Sketch #86

I thought creating ATC's would satisfy my need for working with small things and details, but when I accidently happened to find this sketch featured at  "Cardabilities," I was immediately inspired and smitten with the idea of creating a card. And, coincidently I was going to need one for an impending wedding.

I set out to create a background spritzing various mists on my mat and applying the cardstock on the puddles of the mist and gently applied pressure to the cardstock to pick up those colors.  After the mists dried, a script stamp was applied in various places, and finally a stencil was applied using light molding paste. Below are some close ups of the background work.

I so enjoyed creating this card for a very dear couple, and Cardabilities has certainly inspired me to create more.  Thanks for stopping by.
